
HUNTING
Every year, the draw of several kinds of big game brings hunters from all around the state and country to the Challis area. Wildlife is plentiful with species such as elk, whitetail and mule deer, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, moose, antelope, black bear, and cougar. The nearby forests are home to some of the largest herds of elk in the nation. If bird hunting is your passion, there are also game bird species such as Canadian geese, turkey, grouse, chukars, and quail. Photographers also find our area to be full of opportunities to capture that once in a lifetime picture of a bighorn sheep or mountain goat along the road leading to Stanley.
You may even spot the elusive cougar or wolf. The Challis area is special and without equal as the hunting areas vary from high in the mountains to down in the sagebrush filled valleys. There are several excellent local outfitters that can guide you to just the right remote area to fulfill your dream hunt. Whether you are young or old, a beginner or experienced, the Challis area offers a unique hunting experience.
