The Main Salmon River and the Middle Fork are perfect destinations for river enthusiasts. With thousands of miles of rivers, you can enjoy rafting, kayaking, and tubing among many other river activities. Take a guided whitewater trip on class 5 rapids or venture out on your own leisurely trek down a milder pace. Whatever your preference, the beauty of the waterways will captivate you.
The Salmon River is accessible along the Salmon River Scenic Byway, Highways 93 and 75. For the thrill seeker, the upper river near Yankee Fork offers whitewater rapids that will surely get your adrenaline pumping. The Middle Fork offers a variety of scenic views and diverse wildlife, in addition to natural hot springs and catch-and-release fishing. Beaches along the way mixed with exciting rapids make for all-around fantastic adventures. The lower river near Challis is ideal for families who want to experience and enjoy fishing, floating, swimming, picnicking and whitewater at a somewhat slower pace.
If you want to see all of the splendid scenery Central Idaho has to offer, float down the Salmon River and its tributaries. Floating the Middle Fork requires a Forest Service permit.
